Why Read His Word?

Links And Resources
Here are some of my favorite web sites and resources for reading and buying a Bible. I'll be reading the Bible this year with an R.L. Allen & Son King James Longprimer. I have a matching ESV version that I read the Bible through in 2010.

I've purchased several Bibles from EvangelicalBible.com and I highly recommend them for quality Bibles and super quality service.

J. Mark Bertrand reviews Bibles for the 'physical form of the good book.' If you're looking for a quality Bible but can't decide on which one, check out this blog.

Here is Mark's companion Facebook page. You'll find some terrific people here who love the Bible.

400 Year KJV Anniversary on Facebook
Here's another great Facebook page that is dedicated to reading through the Bible in 2011 in the KJV.

Best Pentecostal Study Bible
New Spirit Filled Study Bible, Jack Hayford editor. NKJV

Best All Around Study Bible
ESV Study Bible. This is my favorite study Bible as it has some of the best illustrations and the commentary is evangelical and pretty fair to all core theologies. It is available in several bindings. Mine is the ESV Study Bible (Premium Calfskin Leather, Cordovan).

A number of years ago I started reading the Bible through every year. It is by far the single most important thing I've done to understand the Bible. Join me and our congregation as we celebrate the 400th year anniversary of the King James Bible by reading the Bible through in 2011. According to Psalm 119:2 you will be blessed!
      Pastor Mike

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Heb 4:12 KJV

“Blessed are they that keep His testimonies [Word],
and that seek Him with a whole heart.” Psalm 119:2

So then faith cometh by hearing,
and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17

B. How to Read the Word Every Day?
1. Pick a plan
Victory Bible Reading -- YWAM -- Back of Bible -- NT/OT/ALL/John/Psalms

2. Pick a Bible

  • Translation
  • Study/Readers Bible Study Bible — Outlines, notes, commentary
  • Readers Bible — Cross references
  •  Form factors: Type size, Binding/paper, Bible size, Red/Black letter, Thumb index, Yap, Paragraph/Verse Cost

3. Pick a place
A place to meet God (free from interruptions)

4. Pick a time
Psalm 119:147-148 seems to suggest a morning and evening
reading plan. However, what ever time works best for
you—is the best. Consider time as an ‘appointment’ that
can’t be broken.
