He Had Compassion

    The raising from the dead of the widow’s son in Luke 7:11-17 was a confirmation to John the Baptist that Jesus was the Messiah. (Luke 7:22)  It also reveals the powerful relationship between healing and compassion.
    Being ‘moved with compassion” was the motive for at least five miracles of Jesus.

    This kind of ‘compassion’ is more than simply having a feeling of love or sympathy for someone. This kind of compassion causes action! The widow’s son was her ‘social security.’ She had already lost her husband and was facing a bleak existence. Jesus was NOT
compassionate for the son who had died but He was moved with compassion for his mother. Luke 7:13
    It would have been a cruel thing to tell the mother not to cry if He could not give her a reason to NOT cry. There is a time for crying that is expected and healthy (Eccl 3:18). And crying at a funeral is one of those times. However, at the funeral of a believer in Christ it is also a time of rejoicing for,  “...we have been raised with Him through faith!” Col 2:12
    As Jesus stopped the funeral procession and spoke to the dead son to rise—God has called us to touch lives with the power of God’s word. We are to ‘speak’ the word of life into a person or situation that will result in the meeting of a need.
    May we like Jesus, be ‘moved with compassion’ that leads to action for those in need around us. Remember, Jesus has given us power (Kingdom authority) to heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons and preach the Gospel. Matt 10:8; Luke 9:1-2.
